The event is always extremely well supported and has become a popular annual fixture in Guernsey. In fact, this year the demand for tickets was so great, that the event was hosted over two nights for the first time, giving twice as many people the opportunity to see it.
Dancefloor Challenge 2012 took place on Friday 27th & Saturday 28th April at Beau Sejour and raised funds for two local charities, GADA (Guernsey Amateur Dancesport Association) and the Guernsey Bereavement Service.
I was lucky enough to take part this year through my job at The Best of Guernsey and was one of the ‘amateur’ dancers, and it was without doubt, one of the best experiences of my life. Not only am I a stone lighter in weight but I have made some great new friends, faced and overcome some personal issues and gained a few new hobbies along the way!
For the Challenge I was paired up with Alex Rowe to learn the Argentine Tango for a group dance and the Ballroom Tango for our couples dance.
I was pretty nervous at our first rehearsal but everyone was so friendly and my dance partner Alex, who had just finished instructing a Zumba class, came over and gave me a big sweaty hug, which definitely broke the ice! Continue reading My Dancefloor Challenge Experience
So it’s New Year’s Eve and despite having a bit of a cold, I am very excited about celebrating seeing in 2012 this evening. The last year has seen several positive changes in my life and I am really proud with how my life is going and what challenges next year is going to bring.
It’s been a really busy year for me and the extra lines of my face are there to prove it but I wouldn’t change any of it.
I probably need to reflect on what my highlights of 2011 are before I look forward to what I want for 2012:

– Attending thebestof annual conference in the UK with my boss Kate Heywood and us coming home with the ‘Social Media Provider Award‘ for The Best of Guernsey.
– Taking part and running in the Race for Life. Such a great cause which means a lot to me as my husband’s mother died of cancer, my granny survived it but my auntie is currently suffering from it.

The event is highly regarded on the island and is an important annual fixture in the local scene. The event takes place on Saturday April 28th at Beau Sejour and is supporting fantastic local charities – GADA (Guernsey Amateur Dancesport Association) and the Guernsey Bereavement Service.
The event usually sells out in minutes filling approximately 400 places at the event!
It’s every girl’s dream to learn to dance and be led by a handsome man. But not just any dance, to learn ballroom dancing, and it’s going to happen to me!
I met with the organisers, sponsors and all the local professional dancers and “personalities” earlier this week. I won’t lie, I was nervous, apprehensive and excited but mostly intrigued to find out who I was paired up with, what the other dancers were like and most importantly, what dances I would be learning.
The outcome of a very highly energised gathering with a bunch of lovely people is that I have the privilege of dancing with a rather gorgeous 21 year old called Alex Rowe. When I heard the group dance options were either the Argentine Tango or the American Smooth, I had hoped for the latter and to do a lively couple dance like the jive. The result is Alex and I will be dancing the…..
